As the year draws to a close, I want to spend some time reflecting on something that has been a huge theme for me this year: finding the magic in the mundane.

For a long time, I thought life should be marked with huge milestones. That the only way to be happy was to achieve these milestones, to have huge markers that determined my worth. However, I’ve since realised that what actually brings me the most consistent joy is little moments. Taking time to notice things, slowing down where I can, and celebrating the tiny sparks of happiness in the everyday.

No longer do I think I could only possibly be happy from marriage, a busy career, or academic achievements. Instead, I find happiness in watching light, being visited by insects, or taking a minute to look in the undergrowth of the woods to find fungi.

It’s been a consistent theme in my photography, it’s what has drawn me into practicing “witchcraft” more tangibly, it’s what has encouraged me to be more creative.

I’d like to share some photographs that celebrate these little moments of mundane magic – I explored storytelling earlier this week – but this time I just want to centre on the magic. From ethereal translucence, imaginative textures, and symbols of hope – I hope these images bring you as much joy as they have for me.

I’m endlessly fascinated by the little details I find. A glint of sunshine, an odd shape that makes me think of something else, or even the tactile sensations of running my hands across odd textures.

I’m not sure whether this has been a product of my photography, or a focus of it. A bit of a chicken and the egg situation – I think both have fed into each other. I do know that, despite having more pressures than I did last year, I’m much happier and feel more content now that I take the time to express gratitude for little moments in life.

If these little moments of magic speak to you, you can bring them into your home with nature prints I have available in my Etsy store.

You can also support my photography by sharing, commenting, or giving small monetary contributions via Ko-Fi! Digital downloads are also available on this platform!

What moments of everyday magic have brought you joy this year? I’d love to hear what you’ve noticed in the comments, or receive links to your own posts on the subject 🙂
