Slow down, connect with nature, and explore your creativity through mindful writing.
Lessons from Nature is a monthly creative writing workshop in Hucknall that blends mindfulness, reflection, and creative expression. Each session takes inspiration from a seasonal moment in nature — from a cluster of autumn blackberries to the first frost — and uses it as a writing prompt for exploration.
This is not about producing polished work. Instead, it’s about celebrating the process, finding meaning in everyday natural details, and expressing yourself through words. Beginners and experienced writers alike are welcome.
What to Expect
Each workshop includes:
- A mindful nature-inspired prompt to spark your creativity.
- Gentle warm-up writing exercises to get words flowing.
- Space for free writing — prose, poetry, journaling, or whatever form feels right.
- Optional sharing and discussion in a supportive, welcoming group.
- Reflection on the “lesson” hidden within nature’s details.
No prior writing experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
Example Past Prompt
One workshop began with a handful of shrivelled blackberries found at the end of the season. From there, we explored themes of endings, resilience, cycles, and transformation. Each participant created a personal piece of writing, weaving their own reflections and experiences into the prompt.
Upcoming Dates for Lessons from Nature
In-person sessions are currently being hosted in The John Godber Centre, Hucknall – a perfect spot for writing as the home of esteemed Romantic poet, Lord Byron.
