Last weekend, I had the opportunity to work with Ashfield Creates as a supporting member of the team presenting the Daedalite Luminarium by Architects of Air. I had an amazing time welcoming people in to such an intriguing installation, and perhaps an even better time getting to spend some time in it myself.
The huge inflatable structure features sections on the casing that let in natural light and create beautiful glowing colour on the inside. One thing I noticed was the calming effect the space had. Whilst I was inside, I noticed excited children calming down and taking a minute to pause. From the outside on the box office, I noticed how the noise died down within a few minutes and people coming out looking refreshed.
It made me think about how I could use light in my own work – especially the layering of light and colour to produce different effects. It’s something I’ve been experimenting with quite a bit recently, and definitely need to think about finishing off some pieces and sharing them soon.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience, really. I had always wanted to visit one of the luminariums, and was really pleased to get the opportunity to be part of making it so accessible to the people of Ashfield.
I have some of my own events coming up with the support of Ashfield Creates soon – some Adult Art Club morning sessions, but also I’ll be at the Ashfield Show 2026 with them over the 7th – 9th August 2026. I’ll be providing a drop-in interactive session to create a community painting.
This is something I’ve done before in different communities, and it has proven quite popular. I think it’s a beautiful activity that encourages creativity and connection and an opportunity to take inspiration from the people around you, and it’s perfect for the whole family to get involved in. If you’re an Ashfield resident, or otherwise attending the Ashfield Show, I’d love to welcome you to add your mark and stop by for a chat about creativity.
I think that’s everything for now. I do have a new project I’m planning to announce soon, so if you’d like to stay up-to-date on that, make sure you’re following me on here or on social media!
