Last weekend, I delivered a drop-in activity as part of the Ashfield Show 2026.

It was my first time doing an event of this scale, though not my first time delivering this activity. It was a real learning curve, but overall I’m really pleased with how the activity went.

Spanning three days, we went through an incredible 25m of paper to create a community doodle roll. I think I set out with the intention of making it more painting-based, but noticed that in this environment, people wanted to drop in and out quite quickly for the most part, so I adapted a little with what I was encouraging individuals to engage with.

I’m really happy I got to be part of such a huge event and had the opportunity to lead such a big project. It was great experience and incredibly fulfilling to see how many people we were encouraging to be creative, even when sometimes they were adamant it wasn’t their thing. I was especially please when the adults got themselves stuck in and accepting that it wasn’t just an activity for the kids.

This activity was a part of the Ashfield Creates programming at the Ashfield Show. Ashfield Creates is a programme designed to bring arts to Ashfield District, delivered by Nonsuch Studios. It is supported by Ashfield District Council and Arts Council England.
